For one special weekend, Washington, DC, hosts two iconic masters of the Brazilian guitar: Latin GRAMMY® winners Yamandu Costa and João Bosco! Experience the exuberance, virtuosity, and passionate energy of Brazilian rhythms on guitar. Yamandu Costa performs on Friday, May 31, at Miracle Theatre in Eastern Market and João Bosco performs on Saturday, June 1, at Catholic University.
Hailing from the Pampa grasslands of southern Brazil, Yamandu Costa is Brazil’s leading instrumental guitarist and one of the top names of guitar in the world. Credited with reviving interest in Brazilian guitar music, his diverse repertoire includes styles like choro, bossa nova, milonga, tango, samba, and chamamé.
João Bosco is one of Brazil’s most beloved artists and Brazilian audiences have grown up playing and singing his music. João innovated popular Brazilian music (MPB) and samba with his own rhythmic style, as well as created iconic lyrics championed by Elis Regina, Clara Nunes, and other titans of Brazilian music. He will be joined by one of Brazil’s most respected electric guitarists, Ricardo Silveira.
We are proud to present these two masters of Brazilian music because they bring outstanding techniques and rhythms from Brazil to the stage and also play with an unrivaled passion that captivates audiences and critics alike.
