Join us for an extra special Brazilian percussion workshop with members of powerhouse Rio street carnival band, Monobloco! Participants will learn from Brazilian percussion masters how to play rhythms on each of the bateria instruments, including tamborim, chocalho, surdo, and and other samba instruments. This is face-to-face learning and performance opportunity with Rio de Janeiro’s largest streeet carnival percussion directors.
All workshop participants are invited to perform one song on stage with Monobloco the next day at their concert at the Spanish Ballroom at Glen Echo Park. Tickets for the concert are sold separately.
We will have instruments and ear plugs on hand, but please bring your own if you have any. All ages are welcome.
The workshop will be held outside in the courtyard of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church at 4512 College Avenue in College Park, MD. In case of rain, we will move inside to the Parish Hall.
Transportation and parking
The College Park Metro station (green line) is a 12-minute walk from St. Andrew’s. You can also park for free in any of the parking lots behind the church—just turn onto Princetown Avenue or Yale Avenue to access the parking lots. We will meet outside behind the church at the circular labyrinth (looks like this) or in the Parish Hall through the leftmost door behind the church (up a small staircase).
