PAHO frevo performance

EducArte performs frevo to celebrate PAHO director Dr. Jarbas Barbosa

This week we were thrilled to perform at the inauguration ceremony for the Pan-American Health Organization’s new director, Dr. Jarbas Barbosa! We were invited to give a short frevo presentation to give tribute to Dr. Barbosa’s home state of Pernambuco. It was an honor to share frevo dance and music with this audience. We performed a medley of classic frevo tunes (Evocação No. 1, Lágrimas de um Folião, Duda no Frevo, and, of course, Vassourinhas) with Brian Falkowski on saxophone, Pablo Regis on pandeiro, and Kate Spanos dancing.

We saw this versatile duo perform last month and we were electrified by their charisma and musicality. As a fully bilingual and bi-musical act combining Venezuelan llanera and Appalachian folk music, Larry & Joe encapsulate what we love about exploring the connections between traditional forms across the Americas.
